About

Straight Shot

We're a private personal training studio that helps people of all fitness levels build strength and confidence with the help of focused and uplifting coaches.

We're called "Straight Shot" because we want to give people an honest and effective way to get stronger and healthier without all of the fads, gimmicks, and hype people are used to seeing in commercial gyms and online.

We want to cultivate a brand...one that reaches the individuals whom the current fitness industry tends to ignore. We love the fact that the people who train with Straight Shot aren’t the usual gym-goers. In fact, many of them would never even think about stepping foot inside a big commercial gym. They don’t care about six-pack abs or a world-record deadlift. They want to feel strong, confident, and accepted and we’re creating the very place where they feel understood, supported, and pushed to grow without being judged for how they look or what they can lift.

We've worked with clients to stay active during cancer treatments, maintain strength during pregnancies, combat depression and anxiety with regular workouts, eliminate chronic joint pain, avoid surgery, establish healthy eating habits, learn how to exercise around physical limitations, lose weight, and find how exercise can improve their daily life outside of the gym. And by no means are we claiming we did any of this. This is all a result of the work these clients put in while trusting us with their coaching. It’s an incredibly fulfilling privilege getting to walk through life with so many amazing people – each with their own story and journey.

Jonny Slick

Founder/Co-Owner/Head Coach

NASM CPT, AFAA GEI, B.S. Fitness and Exercise Science

I’ve been a personal trainer for over 16 years, competed in Strongman, Crossfit, and running, and spent several years practicing parkour, gymnastics, and bodybuilding. I’m passionate about taking all I’ve learned from my coaching and athletic experiences and designing programs that combine the best parts of each discipline without the fluff and gimmicks. I started Straight Shot as an online side project in 2017 while working at multiple gyms. When gyms shut down during the 2020 pandemic, I went all in on online and in-home coaching to bring fitness to where people were. Since then we've grown each year inside our 6,000sq ft facility and I've recruited a talented group of coaches to help me reach and help more people build strength and confidence!

Chris Lewis

Co-Owner/Coach

NASM CPT

I have been an avid runner and cyclist and have always had a passion for sports and exercise.  I coached high school track and cross country for over 13 years and became a personal trainer in 2018. I was part of a team that started a software company in 2004 and sold it in 2017, and since then I have been pursuing my career in the fitness industry. With Straight Shot and my physical therapy practice, Kinetix Physiotherapy and Performance, I am able to combine my love of business with my love of coaching and fitness.

I have competed in Strongman/Strongwoman competition for several years and love the process of training and getting stronger. This passion for building physical and mental strength is what lead me to become a personal trainer and start coaching with Straight Shot the day we opened our Frederick studio. I love the energy and vibe of our studio and the members that come here to accomplish their fitness goals!

Delaney Bodnar

Coach

NASM CPT, PES, CES, USAW L1,

Associate’s Degree in Exercise Science

After growing up around sports my whole childhood, I knew I wanted to do something in the exercise science and coaching field but wasn’t sure which path to take. After high school, I started competing in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. That truly solidified to me that my true passion was coaching. Since becoming certified six years ago, I found I love working with clients with all types of backgrounds, goals, and experience levels, and enjoy seeing the happiness they get from becoming an even better version of themselves!

John Taylor

Coach

NASM CPT, CF-L2

I’ve been a personal trainer for over 5 years and have trained in Krav Maga, CrossFit, Powerlifting, and Strongman (competing in 15 strongman competitions).  I’m passionate about helping others find confidence and mental and physical strength in the gym that translates to everything they do outside of it. The best part of my day is seeing the realization on someone’s face that yes, they can do a very hard thing and then keep getting better at it.

USA Swim Coach, B.S. in Biology

I have been in the fitness industry for over 13 years. My passion for fitness started in competitive swimming, first as a swimmer, then as a coach. I have always enjoyed helping people improve, whether in the pool or in the gym. My greatest joy is helping clients achieve a higher quality of life. I enjoy watching the process of someone gaining both strength and confidence in what they are able to do both physically and mentally. I love helping people of all ages and abilities live happy, healthy, and active lives!

Moe de La Viez

Coach

NASM CPT, CFSC, Myofascial Mobility, Certified Massage Therapist

I have been a lover of movement my whole life! I grew up as a studio dancer, taught Zumba classes and found a love for weightlifting in college, and even currently dabble in the aerial hoop (Lyra). I began my personal training journey in a chiropractic office as a corrective exercise trainer and was able to help people get out of pain and move better. I went to massage school in San Francisco and became even more invested in form and posture which heavily influences my training style.  I love working on muscular imbalances and helping people move better for longer.

Sarah Cerilli

SST Coach at Kinetix PTP in Mt. Holly, NC

NESTA CPT, NASM Nutrition Coach, NESTA Physique and Figure Training Specialist

My fitness journey started when I was in college. It wasn’t until several years ago that I became confident and focused on all aspects of health including eating right and living a healthy lifestyle. I believe we are all on a journey when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. It takes time, practice, dedication, and commitment. It does not happen overnight. I have been a certified personal trainer for 3 years now. In that time I also competed in 5 fitness competitions. It has brought me great joy to watch others as they start their journey and as they better themselves and learn to live healthier.
